Books for Bitties: But No Elephants
But No Elephants by Jerry Smath is my 18-month-old’s favorite book this month, which means I’ve read it often enough to be able to recite it in my sleep.
Poor Grandma Tildy, who never has time to play, finally gets some help when she takes in some animals the pet man tries to sell to her. But no elephants, of course. When the pet man deserts the poor, lonely elephant, Grandma gives in and offers him a home… but soon regrets it.
I’m pretty sure my boys just love the idea of having a bunch of animals running around the house helping them carry stuff and cut wood and fix the roof and whatnot. But it’s a cute book, with colorful, fun illustrations and a happy ending for everyone.
